Department of Plastic Surgery, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Asan Medical Center was established in 1989 with the opening of Asan Medical Center by Chung Robert S who returned from the USA and Kun Chul Yoon coming from the Chung Nam National University. Chung Robert S took up 1st director and chief instructor of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Kyung S. Koh and Sang Hoon Han were newly appointed as cinical fellow and started their new post in 1990 and 1991 then took up professorship in 1991 and 1992 each and these were the momentum of expansion and development of this department. Chung Robert S retired and started practice in August 1995. Kun Chul Yoon took up the director of the department from August 1995 to August 1996 then resigned November 1996 and started practice. 

March of 1996, Gangneung Asan Hospital opened with Dr. Jeong Weon Yoo. September of 1996, Professor Taik Jong Lee moved from Chung Nam National University and took up 2nd director and chief instructor of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery. In 1997, Department of the plastic surgery in Ulsan University Hospital opened and started the practice and the department of the plastic surgery Asan Medical Center grew bigger and well-organized so that the quality of education and clinical practice had been remarkably improved. From September 2002 to now, Dr Kyung S. Koh has taken 3rd director and chief instructor of the department of the plastic and reconstructive surgery. The rest of the faculties are previous director Taik Jong Lee, Joon Pio Hong who took up professorship in 2002, Jong Woo Choi & Jin Sup Eom who took up professorship in 2006. Sang Hoon Han resigned from the professorship in 2001 (1992~2001) and started practice in private clinic. Sang Hoon Park retired from the professorship in 2004 (1998~2004) and started practice in private clinic. Hak Chang moved to the Seoul National University Hospital in 2005 after 3 years of professorship (2002~2005). 

In 2009, Asan Medical Center's Department of Plastic Surgery celebrated its 20th anniversary, and the following year, Professor Joon Pio Hong assumed the chief and led the department's expansion. In 2012, 2013, 2015 Eun Key Kim, Tae Suk Oh, and Hyun Suk Suh took up professorship in turn. In 2013, Professor Jinseop Eom took 5th department chief. In 2016, Professor Taek Jong Lee, who founded the department, retired and moved to the hospital director of Boryeong Asan Hospital. Later, Professor Hyun Ho Han was appointed in 2017, Professor Woo Shik Jeong was appointed in 2018, and Professor Chang Sik Pak was appointed as a professor in the department in 2019. In 2019, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Asan Medical Center's plastic surgery department, a symposium was held with experts from around the world and enhanced the department's status.

In 2022, Professor Kyung suk Koh, the leader of the department, retired, and as of 2023, Young Chul Kim & Hyung Bae Kim were newly appointed as professors. Today, 11 Staffs, 5 Clinical fellows, and 12 residents are contributing to the development of Department and Plastic Surgery.
