- Our department tries to serve the educational accomplishment for the medical school student, resident and postgraduate school.
Medical school students
- Our department started the 2-hour lecture in 1991 for the musculoskeletal course. Practical training for the medical school students was established in 1993 for the 4th grade. Thereafter, lecture for the 1st ~ 4th grade students was given from 1996 to 1999. Since the year 2000, lectures about wound healing, craniofacial anomaly, facial anatomy, reconstruction of the head and neck, breast reconstruction, reconstruction of the body and extremity were given to 2nd ~ 4th grade students. In 2008, lecture for the 1st grade was given in the musculoskeletal course, for the 2nd grade in the Neuromuscular system and head and neck course, for the 3rd grade in the clinical supplemental instructions, for the 4th grade in the 1 week period clinical practice training were given.
Postgraduate school students
- In 1993, wound healing and congenital facial anomaly course were first set up for 3 credits. Thereafter, plastic surgery of the breast, facial palsy, reconstruction of the hand, reconstruction of the head and neck, endoscopic plastic surgery were added on the course. From 2003, topic related with the basic science such as the physiology of ischemic reperfusion injury of the flap was newly introduced. Until now, students entered into the master and doctor’s course and 66 of them took master’s degree and 27 of them took the doctorate.
Residency training program
- Residency training began in 1990. The first residents were Hyung Bo Sim and Choon Shin Lee. In 1995, Yoon Gi Hong, first graduate of UUCM entered the department for the first time. Recently the department runs the programs like following for the residency training; Review of journals, seminar, clinical case presentation in English, presentation of the reference materials, cadaver dissection. Through these ways, various clinical cases are shared and the experiences are enhanced. During the residency training, they have a chance to take part in the international academic conference and presenting the article so that they can compete with the foreign physicians in the namely globalization era. Recently, they have a chance to visit the overseas medical instute in 3rd year of residency for 2 weeks so that they can make a foundation of the microsurgical reconstruction of hand, head and neck.

Research
Since 1989, our department has published about 500 articles in the papers of Science Citation Index. Recently, Jong Woo Choi continue the research on the new materials for bone substitue. Joon Pio Hong studies on Lymphedema & Robotic prosthesis.
